What is Master Record Maintenance?

Definition

Master record maintenance involves continuously updating and validating the authoritative version of a product, customer, or supplier record. In PIM, this ensures all product data remains accurate, complete, and aligned with business rules. Proper maintenance prevents duplication and enhances operational efficiency.

Maintenance applies ongoing authorized changes while protecting established identity and relationships. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take an approved update to a fixture's dimensions, check dependencies and update the relevant master attributes, and retain revision history and trigger affected output checks.
