What is Item Master?
Definition
The Item Master is a centralised repository containing all key product details—codes, attributes, pricing, and supplier information. In PIM, it acts as the authoritative source for maintaining consistent and accurate product data. It supports efficient operations, inventory planning, and multi-channel publishing.
An item master maintains core item identity and operational fields, which may differ from marketing content. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take a newly created ERP item, link its item code and status to the corresponding product record, and prevent content publication for ineligible or unmatched items.
