Digital Asset Management · product-centric

The right drawing, on the right SKU, in the right revision.

Autonera DAM stores product media and technical documents beside the records they describe, so assets inherit the same governance, readiness and distribution as product data.

Filter the library, select an asset, then inspect its linked products, metadata, versions, rights and renditions.

Why it matters

For industrial buyers, the documents are the product.

For industrial buyers, the documents are often the product: CAD drawings, installation guides, safety data sheets and certificates are what engineers and procurement teams look for. A DAM that sits apart from product data leaves those files orphaned, outdated or attached to the wrong variant.

  • Orphaned files

Shared drives hold thousands of images and PDFs with no reliable link to SKUs.

  • Outdated documents

Superseded spec sheets stay in circulation because nobody knows which version is current.

  • Channel format churn

Every marketplace wants different sizes, backgrounds and file types, created manually.

  • Rights exposure

Supplier imagery with expired usage rights continues to publish.

Functional areas

Eight jobs a product DAM has to do well.

DAM functional areas
Centralized libraryImages, video, documents and CAD in one governed store, with collections, saved views and faceted search across metadata, tags and linked SKUs.
Metadata and AI taggingSchemas per asset class. Agents propose tags and extracted text; controlled vocabularies keep tags consistent with product taxonomy.
Asset-to-product relationshipsTyped links (primary, gallery, datasheet, CAD, install video) to SKUs, families and catalogs, with family-level inheritance.
Versions and supersessionRevision history per asset. When a datasheet is superseded, the old revision is withdrawn from every channel that carried it.
Renditions and transformationsCrops, sizes, backgrounds, colour spaces and formats derived from one master per channel profile, never hand-exported.
Rights and expirationHolder, scope, region and window per asset. Expired or out-of-scope rights block distribution before publishing, not after.
Video and rich mediaChapters, captions per language, poster frames and channel-specific encodings tracked as renditions of one asset.
Approval and distributionApproval workflows by asset class and channel; delivery travels with product data through syndication.

How it works

From supplier upload to channel delivery.

Select a stage to follow one asset through the lifecycle.

  1. 01

    Ingest

Supplier portals, agency drops, legacy shares and bulk imports land in a triage collection with checksum and file inspection.

  2. 02

    Describe

Agents propose type, subject, background, embedded text and language. People own the controlled vocabulary.

  3. 03

    Link

File names, transcripts and PDF text are matched to SKUs, families and catalogs. Low-confidence links wait for confirmation.

  4. 04

    Approve

Workflow by asset class: brand review for imagery, engineering for drawings, EHS for regulated documents.

  5. 05

    Render and distribute

Channel renditions are generated from the master; rights and supersession rules gate every delivery.

Industrial examples

Where asset governance pays off.

HVAC manufacturer

Installation manuals exist per model series but are not linked to individual SKUs.

Approach: Agents propose series-to-SKU links from model numbers in the PDFs for review.

Building materials distributor

Supplier images arrive with mixed backgrounds and resolutions.

Approach: Renditions are generated per channel requirement and duplicates are consolidated.

Fluid-control manufacturer

A datasheet revision corrects a flow coefficient for one size; distributors still host the old PDF.

Approach: The prior revision is withdrawn from every channel that received it and dependent spec content is flagged for refresh.

Safety products distributor

Hundreds of SDS documents carry different revision dates per supplier.

Approach: Agents extract revision dates and route documents past their owner-defined review cycle to EHS.

Autonomous execution

Agents do the volume. Policy and people hold the line.

Every agent action is a proposal with evidence, or an execution inside a boundary an owner configured. Nothing outside policy happens quietly.

What agents improve

  • Proposes SKU links for the backlog of unlinked files, showing the matching signal
  • Tags asset type, subject and background; extracts text from PDFs and transcripts
  • Detects duplicate and near-duplicate images before they reach the library
  • Flags rights nearing expiry and missing channel renditions
  • Extracts attribute values from datasheets as proposals for PIM
Approval boundary

Where people decide

  • Brand and content owners approve imagery for public channels
  • Engineering approves drawings and datasheet revisions
  • EHS owns regulated documents such as SDS
  • Reviewers confirm low-confidence product links

Boundaries agents never cross

  • Never distributes an asset outside its recorded rights
  • Never replaces a current revision without the owner's approval
  • Never publishes a regulated document automatically
  • Never deletes a master asset; consolidation keeps history

Buyer questions

How is a product-centric DAM different from a general marketing DAM?

Assets are related to product records with typed relationships (primary image, datasheet, CAD, SDS) and inherit readiness and distribution rules from those products. A marketing DAM typically organizes by campaign and leaves SKU linking to people.

What happens when a datasheet or SDS is superseded?

The new revision becomes current and the prior revision is withdrawn from channels that carried it. The history remains for audit. Exact withdrawal behaviour per channel is subject to product confirmation.

Can agents link our backlog of unlinked files to SKUs?

Agents propose links from file names, embedded PDF text, video transcripts and metadata, showing the signal used. Owners set which link types may be applied automatically and which require confirmation.

How are usage rights enforced?

Rights carry holder, scope, region and expiry. Distribution checks rights before delivery, so an asset outside its licence is held rather than published.

Do we need to re-create channel images by hand?

No. Renditions are derived from the master asset per channel profile (size, background, format, colour space). Rendition engine specifics are pending product verification.

Which file types and video formats are supported?

Common product-content image, video and document types plus engineering formats are supported. Confirm specific formats and size limits with our team.

Can we keep our existing DAM?

Autonera can work alongside an existing DAM or serve as the product asset system. Integration approach is confirmed per project.
