What is GDPR-Compliant PIM?

Definition

GDPR-Compliant PIM is a descriptive term for product-information practices and supporting controls intended to meet applicable General Data Protection Regulation obligations when personal data is processed. Relevant considerations include lawful purpose, data minimization, access, retention, and data-subject rights. Software controls can support these practices, but compliance also depends on how the organization operates the system.

GDPR compliance depends on lawful processing and organizational practices, not a PIM label alone. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take supplier submissions containing unnecessary personal contact notes, apply approved minimization, access, and retention rules, and escalate privacy questions to the responsible owner.
