What is Autonomous Operation?

Definition

An autonomous operation is a data process or business operation that software can perform with limited ongoing human intervention while operating within defined rules, guardrails, approvals, and exception policies.

An operation has a defined outcome and completion criteria, not just a sequence of tasks. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take an instruction to make a lighting range channel-ready, prepare records and resolve routine issues within approved rules, and report remaining exceptions and verified delivery outcomes.
