What is AI Agent?

Definition

An AI agent is a software component capable of interpreting an objective, reasoning about a task, taking actions, and using tools or information to help complete that task. Multiple specialized agents may work together as part of a broader autonomous operation.

An agent has a bounded responsibility; it is not necessarily the owner of the entire workflow. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take a supplier specification sheet, extract candidate product attributes with an AI agent, and send uncertain values for review before updating records.
