What is ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)?

Definition

ERP systems manage core business processes such as procurement, finance, production, and inventory. When integrated with PIM, ERPs supply foundational product and pricing data while receiving enriched attributes and digital assets. This two-way flow ensures operational accuracy and consistent product information across the organisation.

ERP item and commercial records often complement, rather than replace, richer product content. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take a new ERP item for an industrial fixture, match its item code to the product-content record, and prepare approved descriptive data while retaining ERP commercial ownership.
