What is Auto Product Classification?
Definition
Auto Product Classification uses AI or rule-based logic to automatically categorise products into the correct taxonomy and sub-categories. It reduces manual classification effort and ensures consistent categorisation across large product catalogs. In PIM, auto classification speeds up supplier onboarding and improves product discoverability across channels.
Classification assigns records to categories; low-confidence assignments need an exception path. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take uncategorized LED fixtures, classify them against the approved product taxonomy, and release confident matches and queue ambiguous ones for review.
